Hi Everyone,
Our next ACM meeting will be this Friday, October 31 at 4:30pm in LH 133. Malcolm Galland will present about running Linux on routers.
Malcolm will discuss how OpenWRT and DD-WRT (free Linux-based firmware for several wireless routers) can turn your $60 router into a $600 router, and even how to make it do things that a $600 router can’t do like run a mail/http/ftp server. This talk will also include some basics such as an introduction to SSH.
Our VP, Hacker will preside over the meeting since I will be heading out of town for a friend’s wedding.
Free drinks will be provided!
I hope you can make it,
Elijah Lofgren
LETU ACM President
P.S. We’re still looking for people to volunteer to bring their consoles (e.g. Xbox 360) to the LAN party which will be Nov 7th at 7pm in Longview Hall.

Hi Everyone!
Our next meeting will be this Friday, October 24 at 4:30pm in LH 133. Rob Eldridge of Sound Logic Integrations (a Home Theater and
Home Automation System company) will be presenting “Ethernet on the Home front”: What’s driving the High End Networking Home? Networking
hardware designed for mid-sized networks is finding its way into homes. What are the applications that are driving this trend and how it will affect you as a professional?
The annual “State of the Network” address to cover the LeTourneau network is coming up on Nov 7th. If you have any questions, you can send them to me (just hit reply) so that I can forward them to IT before they present.
Also on Nov 7th will be the LAN party at 7pm in Longview Hall. It will be $5 for non-members or you can become a member (also $5) and get in
for free. We’re planning to play Warcraft 3 (DotA), Unreal Tournament 2004, and ???. We are open to suggestions for a 3rd game. We also plan
to have some consoles if anyone is willing to bring their systems with 4 player games.
Thanks to those who have already sent their feedback.
Also, there is an interesting competition sponsored by Microsoft called the Imagine Cup: http://imaginecup.com/ “The Imagine Cup is a global student technology competition focused on finding solutions to real-world issues.” You may want to check it out.
Hope to see you Friday,
Elijah Lofgren

Here’s some info on upcoming events:
The annual “State of the Network” address to cover the LeTourneau
network is coming up on Nov 7th. Representatives from IT will present
and answer your questions. This meeting has been quite popular in the
past, and we need YOUR INPUT! If you have any questions, complaints,
or concerns about the LeTourneau network please send them to me so that I can forward them to IT before the talk.
Also on Nov 7th will be the LAN party at 7pm in Longview Hall. It will
be $5 for non-members or you can become a member (also $5) and get in
for free. We’re planning to play Warcraft 3 (DotA), Unreal Tournament
2004, and ???. We are open to suggestions for a 3rd game. We also plan
to have some consoles if anyone is willing to bring their systems with
4 player games.
Our next meeting will be Friday, October 24 (after Fall Break) at
4:30pm. Rob Eldridge of Sound Logic Integrations (a Home Theater and
Home Automation System company) will be presenting “Ethernet on the
Home front”: What’s driving the High End Networking Home? Networking
hardware designed for mid-sized networks is finding its way into
homes. What are the applications that are driving this trend and how
it will affect you as a professional?
I’ll try to send a reminder out next week, have a great Fall Break!

Hi Everyone!
The next ACM meeting will be this Friday, October 10th at 4:30pm in LH-133.
Ever heard of Linux? Want to know a little bit more of what it’s about?
Or have you heard about it before, but not sure about the difference between distributions?
Come on Friday to hear Hacker give a very brief introduction to Linux and a comparison of some of the more popular distros available.
As usual, drinks will be provided.
I hope to see you there,
Elijah Lofgren
